I screwed up. There, I said it. I know what you're thinking, but there's a first time for everything. There was a grave oversight in the "desert island record" list I posted a week and a half ago. And was reminded of such this evening by a song M-----l posted. I don't know how I overlooked the Wrens' "Meadowlands" CD, but I did. And it belongs on my island. I have edited the post accordingly. Suck it, Uncle Tupelo.
I'm not so much a fan of homemade videos (let's be honest - most of them blow), but the band seems to like them. So who am I to disagree?
This certainly isn't a list of the best CD's I own, and I wouldn't even call it a list of my favorite CD's. (Though there is some overlap here with that second category.) I've had this mental list going for several years now, but this is the first time I've written it down. Some discs are firmly ensconced and have been for years. One was added just this morning, when I realized I listed to it approximately seven hundred times or so in 2007 and still have yet to grow tired of it. So tough titties, Steve McQue- Lyle Lovett. Maybe if you'd omitted that stupid song about how great it is to be from Texas, you wouldn't have gotten bumped.

yesterday was a long day.
i was up by five o'clock. i didn't need to leave until about seven or a little after, but i had to clean up my bike some in addition to eating breakfast. i hadn't touched it since seagull. i made it out to vienna five minutes before we were supposed to ride out, and was pleased to learn others were running later than i. we eventually rolled out of the parking lot for our 85 mile tour of one state, one commonwealth, and one federal district at about eight thirty. it wasn't a promising day. as recently as six o'clock, it had been pouring, and the potential for wind and rain continued throughout the day - a forecast with which i was all too familiar. i'm glad i made it out, though. this was the ride i missed out on when my chain broke last month, and i had been particularly looking forward to it then. and not only were we all riding in honor of patients and survivors of blood cancers, but that much time on a bike gives me time to think, reflect, sort through the previous week. it can be quite therapeutic.
i rolled back into the parking lot at four o'clock and hung out until a little after five, waiting for everybody else to finish. i got home about six and returned doc's call before hitting the sack for a quick nap. by 8:15 i was back out the door on my way to meet emma, daby, and yo han (who chose to celebrate the occasion by donning the pirate regalia). we rendezvoused at bar pilar just a few doors down from the black cat, to which we headed after about an hour. we were there to see the wrens, but first we had to suffer through the second of two opening bands - plus/minus, who were dreadful. it was worth it. the wrens put on an awesome - if short - show for an enthusiastic crowd, and 'she sends kisses' was the only song i wanted to hear which wasn't played. after nearly an hour on the train back home i finally hit the sack for the night - not accounting for the time change - at about four o'clock.
i like my vox blog, but it's very nice to get away from the computer for a while. i wonder what i missed.
