this is radio clash
anybody who doesn't love the clash is an idiot. sure, they're indirectly resposible for U2 in that "they wrote the rule book" but we probably shouldn't hold that against them. they are, after all, directly responsible for some of the greatest punk songs of all time even if their defining moment on record is a cover of the bobby fuller four. the always estimable music publication rolling stone (or maybe their label, who can tell?) called them "the only band that matters." their seminal record, "london calling," was released on december 14, 1979 - which apparently qualifies it for inclusion on "best of the '80's" lists despite that the 1980's didn't begin for another 383 days. but don't worry, it's on all the "best of the 70's lists" too. it's such a good record it needs two decades to fully appreciate it.
all of this is a roundabout way to introduce yinz to the undisputed number one clash fan on all of vox. everyone, this is janie jones. janie, this is everyone. anyone who professes the clash to be their all-time favorite band but doesn't have the same level of devotion as janie.... well, that person is probably just a poseur. i mean, all janie writes about is the clash. that's dedication.
[UPDATE: unlike yesterday's post, i have no agenda here to introduce you to a syncophantic friend. (and those that know vanna know she's nobody's syncophant anyway, least of all mine.) i have never met janie jones. i have no idea who he or she is. i just admire both his/her love of the clash and the dedication to blog about it. there is no other vox'er who can claim such devotion.]

Yeah El Cap-e-tan, I want to meet my soul brother or sister. Where's s/he at????
*pages dabysan*
Ok, Cap'n, This is written with good natured fun and ribbing in mind, I am not trying to snark or start a pissing contest... so I checked out dabysan, all I found on his blog was one Clash song (via a link to Amazon, ahem... cough, cough, snicker...), one Clash video, one Amazon link to Westway to the world, and one self-mention regarding the Hammersmith Palais, and NO posts or even a mention about the Clash. So, El Cap-e-tan, I don't get how that makes dabysan the biggest Clash fan ever, when everything about my blog is Clash oriented. I know I am not the only nor even the biggest Clash fan in the world, but why in your opinion, is he a bigger Clash fan than I am, and on what are you basing it on?
El Cap-e-Tan writes: Hey, I love The Clash and all. But Joe, Mick, Topper, and Paul should've burned it before it was released. Janie Jones sharpens the pointy stick with which to poke El Cap-e-tan for blaspheming and tells him to CUT THE CRAP!!!
I'll divert the debate to John Rod (or Emma) who know(s) Dabysan better than anyone else. Daby- eats, sleeps, and breathes The Clash. But then again, you might be right. I'm not sure how much: 101ers, Masceleros, and Big Audio Dynamite he owns.
On top of that, we recently discussed what 4 (musical) faces we would put on Mount Rushmore. He voted on Joe Strummer + 3 other non-Clash members. I have 2 guesses on the faces you would add. It's either all 4 members of The Clash, or Joe Strummer 4x. Am I right?
Joe would be on there, sure. Along with Roger Waters/or David Gilmour, depending on your camp, I don't feel like debating that old hat again...., Joan fucking Jett, and probably, Aretha Franklin.
Requests for sharpened pointy sticks may be placed with the pocket-minion's union local 452 representative.
No Daby, I am not one of your friends (well, I hope you consider me a new friend) trying to mock you. I am a real SWF from San Francisco, and I have loved the Clash ever since Sandinista. I will look to you for information and inspiration from time to time, since I bet you have more tactile, factual knowledge than I do. I will admit that my fangirl nature is geared towards the mainly musical, not towards factual information. In doing minor research for posts, I am learning so many new, and interesting things. The best is that I have been singing the wrong lyrics to my favorite Clash song for I don't want to tell you how many years... In (White man) in Hammersmith Palais, the line goes:
The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got Burton suits, ha you think it's funny
Turning rebellion into money
I always thought it went: The NEWS CREWS are not concerned with what there is to be learned, they got BURTON SUITS, (There is an old phrase called "going for a Burton", meaning: when a soldier was killed he was buried an a service issue Burton Suit/or upon release they are issued a Burton Suit), ha, you think it's funny, turning rebellion into money... (when really they were referring to the Jam in their Rude boy styled suits (another one of my favorite bands although the Clash deemed them to be sell-outs)), not the news media trying to make a dime off of stories about dead soldiers.
Apology accepted. You may feel free to check out my real blog that I have for myself since I inadvertantly outted my real identity by accident - it's tough to blog as two different people when you have to keep signing in and out as the other identity..., as further proof that I have never heard of you (dabysan), Cap'n, or hot rod before just the other day when he gave me a shout out. My Ministry of Whitewash blog is no ruse, it is heartfelt admiration for the greatest band ever. Like I said up top, the Clash is my favorite band because any type/style of music you want to hear, the Clash has a song that will fill the bill. Also, the lyrics are as timely today as the contemporariness (sic?) of their sound.
Ahh, another soul sister! I now have a soul brother and a soul sister! Right on! So kat, where are all of your Clash photos, videos, books, audio, comments, and posts about the Clash? I am dying to see some stuff that I haven't seen yet, LET'S SHARE THE WEALTH!!!
Home is where the heart is, I don't need any overt act to convince people to think I am a true fan like moving somewhere just because that is where a band is from... Fandom comes from within, not from where you lay your head down at night.
Seriously, though, you should come check out London some time, see their old stomping grounds, Hammersmith, Brixton, Ladbroke Grove etc. It's a magical feeling, being somewhere you know they once played, or having a drink at The Elgin in Notting Hill, where Joe played with the 101ers back in the days before the big C. If you come over I'll take you for a drink there, it's a great place.
You misinterpretted, I wasn't being nasty, I was trying to be amusing - I should have put the smile face :) or winking face ;), but context gets SO LOST over the internet... I never said I was die-hard, someone else did. My MoW blog was just for MYSELF! I never expected anyone would ever even look at it. Just so you know, I didn't point out my blog, someone else did!
This is only one of many blogs I keep, I also am crazy for Pink Floyd too. I also blog about one of my internet chat groups, and another all about MYSELF!!!
I have a friend that lives in Essex, and if I ever get the chance to go visit her, I will be looking you up too, Kat! Something tells me, all snarking aside, I bet we'd really get along great and have lots in common, and have a hell of a time! And my highest compliemt to you Kat, I bet you are as punk as fuck!
I just wrote to Janie and said I'm more than happy for her to have the award of being Vox's biggest Clash fan. Hehehe - to be honest, I'm much more of a Manic Street Preachers / The Cure / Mike Patton fan anyway!!! (I can heard ol' Joe, wherever he is, waving his fist at me going 'and you call yourself a fan! The Cure, bah!!') :p
Looking forward to reading Janie's, Hot rod's, and Dabysan's blogs from now on :)
The first time I went to London, I basically did the Clash/Pogues tour. I went to every tube stop mentioned in the songs. Not a bad way to see the town actually.
