my new favorite team

They have a long and storied history of winning a lot.

So...you're just a bandwagon jumper onner?

Not at all. I've been a Steeler fan since I was old enough to know what football is. And, as I illustrated, my new-found Yankee fandom has a sound foundation of spite. The winning is just gravy.
well, fwiw, I was only referring the quote to your reason for Yankee fandom, not the linked article about the Stillers. I wouldn't question your loyalty to them, (nor could I give half a crap about football to question it anyway!)
Jerry Hairston vs. Crankypants

I just don't know who to choose here. Maybe I won't watch at all.
Well, it would be unfortunate - after thirty-six years of not supporting a MLB team - to suddenly sign on with a loser. Like the Phillies.
Yes, yes he is.
Don't think of it as rooting against Crankypants. Think of it as rooting against the entire city of Philadelphia, which we all know is the right thing to do.
I vote crankypants. I've said it before, I'm betting she's scrappy.

All I'm saying is that becoming a fan of the Yankees right after they win the AL pennant, no matter what your reasons, unless you had money riding ojn it, makes you look kinda douchey, that's all.

And perhaps you forgot who won the World Series last year? the 'loser' Phillies?

If Alex Rodriguez was swishing as bad as Nick Swisher, the Yankees would be at home with their thumbs up their asses.

There's a surprise. Losers can be scrappy too.
Oh, is it a fight? I was just trying to figure out who to root for. I'd definitely go with Cranky in a fight.

I'll probably have to wait until I see what the Phillies look like to figure out who I like in the Series. I haven't actually seen them play a game this year. Their post-season was on a station I don't get. TNT or something. If they've got a bunch of guys with stupid facial hair configurations, I'll have to go Yankees.
It's not your fault OR JHJ's fault he was traded. You liked him when he was a Red. Now you have to pick another favorite Reds player based on their photo. You do not have to remain loyal to him, he signed your ball when he was a Red. The Phillies are cool. The Yankees are overpaid celebrities.
I realize Philadelphians aren't real big on reading or understanding things, but I think my post adequately described my motivations and their history and that anybody with half a brain (which doesn't include Phillies fans) can see given the context this announcement is completely reasonable.

Oh the Phillies are cute but they have some rockin' bad facial hair.

There are a few guys with stupid facial hair on the Phillies, I'll grant you that. I swear Pedro Feliz is giving a muskrat a home under his chin.
I understand, I'm just saying your reasons are douchey. Spite and rooting against 2 other teams...douchey. I just don't know how to put it all overwinded, cryptic and snarky. I din't go too colledge.

I think he may have tamed the muskrat. maybe not though.

and wait, am I supposed to fight Jerry Hairston Jr?! how did this come about? Good thing I grew my fingernails.

Maybe you misunderstood. "Douchey" is what Sox fans do. I'm a Yankee fan. We're on the side of the angels.
In today's era of free agency and players changing teams every other year, fans usually end up rooting for a uniform instead of specific players, but I find that there are some players I like regardless of which team they're on. Jerry Hairston Jr. is one of those guys. He and I have a very close bond formed over beautifully drawn art and personalized autographs. It would be very hard to root against the man who is essentially the other half of my soul.

Shit, I have no idea what I'm going on about. It's getting kind of weird. I officially withdraw from this thread. I just want to see some good baseball. That's it.
Shit, I have no idea what I'm going on about.

What you're going on about is that since the Reds are out of it, you're rooting for the Yankees. Don't let Cranky strongarm you into rooting against your soulmate. JHJ would be very disappointed if that happened.

I'm a Yankee fan. We're on the side of the angels.

Now I'm really confused. Didn't the Yankees just beat the Angels?
